Richard “Dick” Deraitus, age 67, of Birchwood, WI, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at his home.
He was born on May 8, 1942 in Birchwood, WI to William and Frances Deraitus. Dick attended school in Birchwood and entered the United States Army serving during the Vietnam Era and was later Honorably Discharged. He was married to Denise Anderson in Birchwood on October 27, 1970. Dick worked at Birchwood Lumber and Veneer, Lunda Construction in Black River Falls, WI and Michael’s Pipeline out of Brownsville, TX.
Dick was a member of the Birchwood American Legion. He loved to hunt, fish, read, garden, watch the Badgers and the Packers and to visit with his grandchildren.
Dick Deraitus is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richie & Jennifer Deraitus of Rice Lake, WI; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacie & Jon Small of Birchwood, WI; 4 grandchildren, Bailee, Morgan, Alyssa and Andrew; his ex-wife, Denise Anderson of Rice Lake; 4 brothers, Edward Deraitus of Birchwood, Stanley Deraitus of Cornell, WI, Ronald Deraitus and Raymond Deraitus both of Birchwood, WI; 2 sisters, Valentine Skrabutenas of Homewood, IL and Delores Deraitus of Chicago, IL; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Frances Deraitus; and a brother, William Deraitus Jr.
Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, Rev. Paul Oman officiating, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery at Spooner, WI, where Military Rites will be accorded by the Birchwood American Legion Post. Friends may call from 10 AM - 12 PM Wednesday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals.
