Karen R. Schilling, age 72, of Rice Lake, WI formerly of Minong and Minneapolis, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at her home.
She was born on August 17, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN to George and Edna (Bruning) Greene. Karen graduated from the Edison High School in Minneapolis. She was married to Gary Schilling on July 25, 1957. They lived in Minneapolis for many years where she raised her family and retired to Minong, WI in 1990. Karen was active in Mothers of Multiples group, a card club in Wascott and the Treble Tones in Minneapolis. Karen enjoyed doing crafts, crossword puzzles and loved being with her grandchildren.
Karen Schilling is survived by 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Jane & Brian Mikkelson of Plymouth, MN, Joan & Curt Wilcox of Minong, WI, Sara & Tooter Haakenson of Gordon, WI and Susan & Matt Quigley of Rice Lake, WI; a son and daughter-in-law, Joel & Mary Schilling of Motley, MN; 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Marcia Fjerstad of Minneapolis, MN, Maxine Narog of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Demko of Arizona and Susan Crow of California; 4 brothers, Tom Greene of Monticello, MN, Wayne Greene of Kansas, Bud Greene of Minneapolis, MN and Michael Greene of McGregor, MN; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Schilling in 2003; a son, John Schilling in 2004; parents, George and Edna Greene; 2 sisters, Darlene and Jane; and a brother, John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, WI, Fr. James Powers officiating. Friends may call from 9 - 10 AM Saturday at the Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake.
