Irene was born to Carl and Inga (Syrstad) Olson on January 19, 1919. She was married to Fred Smith on November 16, 1936 at Campia, WI. As a child she attended the Fadness School in Campia, she was on the Doyle Township Election Board and was a lifetime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Campia and a member of the church’s Circle, Ladies Aide and Bible Study. Irene loved to cook, bake and to spend time with her family and friends.
Irene Smith is survived by her husband, Fred Smith of Rice Lake, WI; 3 daughters, Carol (Keith) Smith of Manitowoc, WI, Marilyn Otterholt of Rhinelander, WI and Janice (Mel) Elliott of Sandstone, MN; 8 sons, Roger (Roberta) Smith, Dale (Marilyn) Smith, Don (Lois) Smith, Raymond (Judy) Smith, Allen (Debbie) Smith, Bruce (Karen) Smith and Mark (Robyn) Smith all of Rice Lake, WI and Brian (Chris) Smith of Neillsville, WI; 34 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gail Nordquist of Webster, WI; brother-in-law, Wilson (Leona) Smith of Rice Lake, WI; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jerry “Ozzie” Otterholt; 2 grandsons, Michael & Trevor; parents, Carl and Inga Olson; 4 sisters and a brother.
Memorial Services will be held 12:00 PM Monday, March 8, 2010 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Campia, WI, Rev. Carolyn Mowchan officiating. Friends may call from 11 AM - 12 PM at the Church on Monday. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI.
