Mary M. Stanonik, age 94, of Barron, WI formerly of Gurnee, IL passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Heritage Manor in Rice Lake, WI.
She was born December 20, 1915 in Madison, IL. She married John Stanonik in April of 1942 in North Chicago, IL. They were later divorced.
Mary worked at Fansteel, The Country Squire, Compacted Metals and later as head cook at Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, IL. She played with the American Croatian Tamburitzans, was a member of the Illinois Orchid Society, enjoyed traveling, living in Arizona. She loved gardening, her flowerbeds, bird watching, reading, knitting, crocheting, basketry and counted cross-stitch.
Mary Stanonik is survived by her children, Robert (Carol) Stanonik of Rice Lake, WI, Patricia (George) Sorenson of Rice Lake, WI, Lesley (Gary) Brown of Moses Lake, WA and David Stanonik of Twin Lakes, WI; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Gerzel of Gurnee, IL; a brother, John Worklan of Phoenix, AZ; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Worklan of Sun City, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Catherine Worklan; a sister, Ann Prebil; a brother, Matt Worklan; and her special friend, William Klein.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, WI, with Rev. Jeff Elmquist officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park in Gurnee, IL at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI.
