Verdene H. Pokorny, age 96, of Sarona, WI, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Rice Lake Convalescent Center.
She was born on December 9, 1913 in Osage, IA to Albert and Anna (Booth) Semm. Verdene was married to Herman Pokorny on April 3, 1934 in Radisson, WI. Verdene was a loving and caring person who lived for her family. Being a homemaker is what she loved doing and was always there to see us all through our lives and her work was never done. Whether a wife, mother or grandmother, her love for us always came first and was our guardian angel.
Verdene Pokorny is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Delbert & Sally Pokorny of Escondito, CA and Norman & Donna Pokorny of Sarona, WI; 6 grandchildren, Jody, Jinger, Cindi, Wanda, Norman II and Jeanette; 8 great-grandchildren, Joel, Daniel, Matthew, Felicia, Shania, Lucas, Julia and Scott; 2 great great-grandchildren, Devon and Mia; 2 sisters, Norma and Shirley; a sister-in-law, Alice Ward of Rice Lake, WI; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman in 1982; 2 sisters, Kay and Wanda and 2 brothers, Gerald and Arnold.
Graveside Services will be held at 3:30 PM Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Sarona Cemetery in Sarona, WI, with Rev. Steve Svendsen officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI.
Pallbearers - Gary Lindenberger, Todd Friebohle, Norman Pokorny, Wanda Lindenberger, Cindi Friebohle and Norman Pokorny II.
