Lawrence “Jim” Young, age 76, of Mikana, WI, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.
He was born on December 26, 1933 in Manitowoc, WI to Lawrence M. and Beulah Young. After he graduated from High School he entered the United States Navy and completed his basic training in Chicago and then served in the Korean Conflict on the USS Bon Home Richard and was honorably discharged in October of 1954. He met and married Pat in 1956. Jim worked for Del Monte for 34 years in Rochelle, IL, upon retirement in 1988 he moved back to Wisconsin where he and his wife lived on Big Chetac for 17 years and now resided in Mikana, WI. Jim was a life member of the Birchwood American Legion Post #379 and the VFW in Weyerhaeuser.
Jim Young is survived by his wife, Pat Young of Mikana, WI; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn M. & John Lazenby of Lockport, IL; 2 grandchildren, Chad M. Young and Amanda Lazenby; 2 brothers, Warren Young of Sycamore, IL and Phil Young of Rock Falls, IL; 2 sisters, Rozanne Greenwood of Franklin Grove, IL and Laurie Beinfang of Tomah, WI; and several nephews and nieces.
Graveside Services and Military Rites will be accorded by the Birchwood American Legion and the VFW of Weyerhaeuser at 2:30 PM Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery at Spooner, WI.
