HENKEL, Hazel Luetta Scheid
(December 28, 1918 - May 7, 2010)
Hazel Luetta Scheid Henkel, age 91, of Rice Lake, WI, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Care Partners Assisted Living in Rice Lake.

She was born on December 28, 1918 in Campbellsport, WI to Emanuel and Irene (Schultz) Scheid. She graduated from Campbellsport High School and Dodge County Normal School in Mayville before teaching at Granite School, north of Lomira. Hazel also worked as a bookkeeper for Golden Corners Cheese Factory before graduating from Oshkosh State Teachers College. She taught at Ft. Howard School near Green Bay before her marriage, and returned to teaching at Theresa and Lomira schools later for a total of 21 years. Hazel was an organist for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for more than 50 years, and belonged to the Winnebago Lutheran Academy Auxiliary.

Hazel married Adolph Henkel on June 29, 1946 in Lomira. They farmed in Lomira until 2003, when they moved to Rice Lake. Hazel loved dogs, especially her latest companion, Smokey. She was a strong supporter of Lutheran Education and a staunch Republican.

Hazel Henkel is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Mark & Hilde Henkel of Rudolph, WI and Dr. Philip & Connie Henkel of Rice Lake, WI; 5 grandchildren, Dr. James (Dr. Kayme) Henkel of Silver Spring, MD, John Henkel of Palatine, IL, Alana, Joel and Adam Henkel all of Rice Lake; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Henkel in 2003; her parents, Emanuel and Irene Scheid and a sister.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, May 15, 2010 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lomira, WI, Rev. Matt Kuske officiating, with interment in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Church from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM Saturday.

Visitation will also be held from 5 - 7 PM Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, WI.

Memorials may be directed to the Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac, Northland Lutheran High School in Mosinee or the Redeemer Lutheran School in Rice Lake.
