HOUSTON, Donald C.
(August 6, 1935 - May 19, 2010)
Donald C. Houston, age 74, of Rice Lake, WI, passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 19, 2010.

Born August 6, 1935 to J. Kenneth and Deliah (Haley) Houston, he was raised in Comstock, WI and graduated from the Cumberland High School in 1953. He served in the Armed Forces (Korea) from 1954 - 1956. On September 8, 1956 in St. Paul, MN he was married to Geraldine “Jerry” Teal. He owned the E-Z Shop Gas Station (Kwik-Trip North) in Rice Lake for many years. After selling the E-Z Shop in 1996 he worked part-time at J.C. Penney’s until retiring in 2008. Don survived many health challenges through the years. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle natured man, his concern for others and his immense love of his family will always be treasured. His sense of humor will be missed by many. Don enjoyed spending time at the “Farm” in Comstock, “Up North” at the Owl Hoot, camping, many years of ball with the “Shoppers”, cooking, working on his yard and flower gardens. Don was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and a Life Member of VFW #8510.

Don Houston is survived by his treasures in life. His very special wife of 53 years, Jerry (Teal) Houston of Rice Lake, WI; 3 sons, Kenny (Cheri) Houston, of Rice Lake, WI, Jeff (Missi) Houston of Rosemount, MN and Mike (Aledgra) Houston of Eau Claire, WI; a daughter, Cherie (Rick) Jenkins of Rice Lake, WI; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Houston, Katie Saffert, Madison Jenkins, Allison Houston and Samantha Williams; a great-grandson, Jace Coulton; 4 step grandchildren, Trevor, Kym, Sean and Derrick and 5 step great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen (John) Kosman of Menomonie, WI and Alice Olson of Barron, WI. He was preceded in death by his father, J. Kenneth; mother, Deliah (Haley); stepmother, Eleanor (Gloubitz) Houston; and 3 sisters, Delores (Chip) Friday, Betty (Don) Elfstrom and Roberta (Bob) Ricci.

Funeral Services will be held 7:00 PM Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI, Rev. Jeff Elmquist officiating. Friends may call from 4 - 7 PM Saturday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals.
